Wine Tasting – May 2019

wine tasting with Peggy, the hostPeggy Huf graciously hosted a wine tasting on May 23rd at her beautiful home in Havertown, PA. This was our second wine Wednesday and was an absolute blast.  A total of 14 guests attended, and we sat outside as the weather was beautiful. Each bottle contains about 16 tastings, so 12-15 guests is a perfect number. We served the wines light to red, light-bodied to full-bodied. First, shared the history of Scout & Cellar as well as the calories and benefits of drinking Scout & Cellar versus store-bought wines (no added sugars, low sulfites, no chemicals, etc.)

The guests were able to try all wines, or the preferred whites, reds, or pink. We started with a sparkling Pinot Noir called Nortino (definitely the crowd favorite) and used a measured pour to ensure everyone received the right amount. The glasses were stemmed, as stemless glasses are more likely to become warm due to hands on the bowl. Next, we tried the Fieldhouse Rose, Gallivant Chardonnay, and Resident Pinot Gris. After the whites, we took a break for a yummy dinner, catered by Zoe’s Kitchen. Peggy also provided cheeses, healthy crackers, popcorn, hummus, and other light snacks. The Zoe’s spread consisted of a healthy selection of chicken and shrimp kabobs, roasted vegetables, and a greek salad. This was a low-calorie, nutritious, and filling meal.

Next, we tried the reds after letting each one aerate for several minutes. We poured the Middle Jane Cabernet and the Solar Del Alma Malbec. We saved our personal favorite, the Etnico Gran Reserva Cabernet/ Malbec mix for the final taste. We received great reviews from each wine- many people could sense that the wine contained less sugar than their typical choices. The attendees took note of their favorite wines, and we provided order forms for them to take notes on and follow along with.

Overall, it was a great night & opened the doors to clean-crafted wine and the many benefits. This is something we promote as a lifestyle change & we are looking forward to many wine Wednesdays in the near future.
